I am driving home today. It has been too long since I have been home to see my family.

I never mean for so much time to pass between visits, but my own life hangs onto me so tightly it is hard to pry myself loose.

As I look at my schedule for the coming months, I need to go home now or wait until May. I am not waiting.

Finding God in the High Places of Machu Picchu

I climbed a mountain last week and found God waiting for me in the clouds. I began the climb because I wanted to overcome some personal fears and anxieties. I finished because I could not do it alone.

Last week, my oldest daughter, Meghan, and I climbed Huayna Picchu in the Cusco region of Peru. Huayna Picchu defines the background of most iconic pictures of Machu Picchu, looming ominously over the Incan ruins spread over the side of the mountain.

Standing in the ruins of an Incan temple at the top of Huayna Picchu, I felt as if I were on the doorstep of heaven.
