What are Three Keys to Belonging to a Church?

I have been a member or served in sixteen churches from Missouri, Kentucky, Florida, and Tennessee. They have ranged in size from twenty people to more than three thousand. I have also worshipped in churches of different denominations in a half dozen other states and in the countries of Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Honduras, England, South Africa, and Botswana.

All of these experiences continually remind me of the breadth and depth of the Church and all the marvelous ways God is at work in the world through God’s people.

What Are Three Keys to Living Like a Christian?

My mother says that when I was very young I would cheer when our car turned left out of our driveway, but I would cry when our car turned right. Turning left meant going to town or to see family or friends. About the only time we ever turned right was to go to church. Since my dad was a pastor it seemed like we were always going to church.

My earliest understanding of what it was to live as a Christian meant going to church at least three times a week.

How Will You Spend Black Friday?

I have never been one of those “rise at the crack of dawn to get the best deal” kind of person on Black Friday. However, a couple of years ago when our seven-year-old television was dying, I began looking for a new one.

We had a 27″ CRT Sony and it seemed like a perfect time to go for a flat screen. My wife and I poured over the ads in the Thanksgiving Day paper.

We found a sale we liked and went to bed early.

At 4:00 a.m. we were lined up outside the Target store in our neighborhood. We were about a hundred or so people deep into the line.

At 5:00 a.m., the doors opened.
